God’s Grocery Store!

God’s Grocery Store

As I walked down life’s highway,
I came upon a sign that read God’s Grocery Store as its name.
When I got a little closer, the doors swung open wide, and when I came to myself, I was standing inside.
I saw each of the disciples. They were all standing there. One handed me a basket,
And said, ‘My child shop with care.’
Everything a person needed was in that grocery store, and what you could not carry, you could come back for more.
First I got some PATIENCE.
HEART was in that same row. Further down was CONFIDENCE; you need that everywhere you go.
I go a heap of POWER and FAITH in me and you, and GAME SENSE was a must, I would need lots of that too.
I couldn’t miss the PASSION, for it was all over the place.
And then some STRENGTH to pull me through, and COURAGE to help me run this race.
My basket was getting full but I remembered I needed TRUST, and then I chose COMMUNICATION, for that’s important to us.
My arms were getting tired now but I couldn’t forget LOYALTY.
In order to get me past all this, I knew I could rely on UNITY.
I gathered up some SPEED, and then I found that INNER FIGHT.
I almost missed PRIDE and HONOR, but I saw them just to the right.
Then I started to the counter, to pay my grocery bill. For I thought I had everything I’d need to carry out my greatest WILL.
As I went up the aisle, I saw POISE and put that in. For I knew when I stepped outside, I’d meet with COMPETITION.
DESIRE and SACRIFICE were plentiful. The last things on the shelf, SPORTSMANSHIP was hanging near, so I just helped myself.
Then I asked God, ‘Now how much for these items in my bin?’
HE smiled and said, ‘just use them to help you WIN.’
Every time I face a CHALLENGE, now I know I’ll have everything I need, to OVERCOME ADVERSITY, and ensure that I SUCCEED!!!!

Amen…

The Stench!

9 Apr

An early start to last Saturday but nothing unusual about that, I love mornings! So peaceful and calm, the day filled with so may wonderful possibilities…..

I was lucky enough to have married a man who also loves starting his day early…Our routine is coffee, gym and then a stop at our favorite bistro for an another cup of coffee with a side of catching-up with friends. Our place is a second generation Italian owned bistro. As soon as you walk in, you’re family!

With smiles and morning salutations I am at my oh so familiar coffee station (self-serve). I’m chatting it up with the people behind the counter and then I notice a man hovering around the coffee area. There was plenty of space for me to get my coffee so I moved in a little closer. But then an awful cigarette stench hit me, like a two by four to my face. And trust me on this one, NO ONE smells like that in this bistro. I then took  a better look at this man. I noticed he looked a bit out of place and a bit confused/uncomfortable. I asked if I could help?

He said, “I’m from the hood, I’m looking for powered cream.”

Well…..

…I said, “they don’t have any powdered cream but the cream here is really delicious.”

I showed him where it was and then showed him which containers had the regular coffee and which container held the decaf. Trying to make him more at ease, I continued to familiarize him with the coffee set-up but yet he remained very distracted repeating the words “I don’t want to miss my bus” (as he kept looking over his right shoulder.)

He helped himself to half regular and half decaf with some cream and sugar, then he asked me, where he should pay?

…I said “Go, don’t miss your bus, it’s my treat.”

With his right hand in the peace symbol shape, he pounds his chest twice, kisses his his two peace fingers and throws it at me with a smile on his face.

I immediately returned the gesture…

Some would say I did a kind act for someone last Saturday morning.

But I wouldn’t agree!

Last Saturday, I bought myself an all-day smile for just $2.00.

I would say money well spent on myself!

…I hope my new friend returns soon!

p.s. He didn’t miss his bus!

Monday’s Colorfull Idea!

29 Jul

Hi there…Sorry for the late posting! Just arrived home from the most wonderful 24 hours at a wedding at Lake Canandaigue (Naples, NY)

So without further delay…

My silent investor and I love watching the Tour de France together.  And once again I found myself wondering (forgetting) what the different colored shirts represented that are awarded to individual cyclist. I knew the yellow jersey was for best overall winner but that adorable white with red polka dots got me scratching my head. So of course I consulted with my best friend “google” who set me straight as you will read below. But that is not what this post is about….

“Understanding those colored jerseys”

“The yellow jersey represents the race leader.
The green jersey represents the race’s best sprinter.
The polka dot jersey designates the race’s finest climber.
The white jersey designates the highest-ranked rider in the overall competition age 25 or younger.
In most instances, cyclists wearing specialty jerseys like to wear them as long as they can during the race. But the colored jerseys of the Tour change often, and the anticipation of those costume changes each day helps make the Tour a race of many races.”

OK the above is the official colored jersey…Now for the unofficial (MY) colored jerseys explanation and (MY) idea!

…Let me explain…

In history a color or a marking on a jersey told a person’s negative story…Remember the “Scarlet A” for women who cheated on their husbands? Or the black and white prison stripes for inmates or now the orange jumpsuits?…etc…

Well, I thought what if in life we rewarded people with a colorful jersey for doing something positive; to be worn for a day or maybe a week? It would symbolize (show the world) something very positive and strong in ones life, encouraging  a competitive atmosphere for positive behavior.

What if we gave out a colorful jersey to the spouse that was cheated on, dropped kicked to the curb but yet remained hopeful, positive and moved on to a life without involving their Ex?… What if we gave out a jersey for standing up to people who bullied other people?…What about a jersey to the politician who didn’t lie, or cheat? Or for the police who brought communities together. I know the positive action list could go on and on!

I mean why not? We give out gold stars to children for good behavior in school and at home….I think there should be something colorful and proud for adults to wear that screams I had some vacation time in Hell and please know I have learned I will never use that travel agent again!

Those who wore these colorful jerseys would represent the leaders in the human race! Maybe the shirtless (narcissistic) would get motivated to behavior nicer!

I think it could be contagious and create a kinder more gracious world….

…Well, it was just an idea!

Stay safe!

Monday’s Hi All…

1 Jul

Hi All….It’s been a while since I have actually sat down and poured my thoughts all over you! But today is the day AND you know what they say…you can’t keep a good woman down forever!

First of all what have you’ve been up to?

Who me?

Absolutely “nothing” besides discovering a new fondness for red licorice shoe string candy along with tying knots in it before it hangs from my mouth.

Impressive I know!

But we might want to put that aside for the moment.

Because if you allow me to brag, I have perfected doing “nothing”….In fact I’ve taken “nothingness” to an extreme sports level!

Scarecrow: I haven’t got a brain… only straw.
Dorothy: How can you talk if you haven’t got a brain?
Scarecrow: I don’t know… But some people without brains do an awful lot of talking… don’t they?
Dorothy: Yes, I guess you’re right.

-Wizard of OZ

So with all that “nothingness” said….Some others I am so honored to have in my life have actually been in a very productive mode and have been working very hard.

My very beautiful and very brilliant daughter Charlotte Garden has her own blog called commitnesstofitness.com She is a very funny and gifted writer! If you want to laugh, go straight to her blog!

My friend Nancy W. Kaufman finished and published her first book called “Hail Mary Full of Secrets”. It’s pure fiction, damn it, or so she says! Available on Amazon in paperback, Kindle version will be available in a few weeks. …My copy just arrived and cannot wait to start reading it. I’m traveling this week and “Hail Mary Full of Secrets” will be my in-flight pleasures!

And if this wasn’t enough frosting on life’s cake….

The courts have done what they were supposed to do…

Justice, Fairness, Accountability and Dignity for all…

…And I have never been happier! Thanksgiving for prayers answered!

Stay safe!

Dear Readers,

Below is an insightful quote from Troy of aslongasimsinging.wordpress.com. I will take his advice and I hope you do too!

“In my humble experience, the “magic” of the holidays only happens when you actively stop. Just stop, and allow it to happen for you, instead of because of you.”

Bullying!

23 Oct
Dear Readers,

I have just returned home from a delicious lunch and a presentation on Bullying at one of Cleveland’s very beautiful private schools. I was invited to join other parents, faculty and educators from around the Cleveland area to listen and participate in a discussion regarding Bullying.

Cynthia Lowen (featured speaker) Educating The Heart: A Moral Compass.

Ms. Lowen is the co-filmmaker of “Bully,” a feature documentary following a “year in the life” of America’s bullying crisis. She is also an award-winning writer and winner of the prestigious Discovery Prize. Ms. Lowen co-authored “The Essential Guide to Bullying: Prevention and Intervention,” published this month. Together with Lee Hirsch, the director of “Bully,” she also co-edited “BULLY: An Action Plan for Teachers and Parents to Combat the Bullying Crisis,” published September 25.

Ms. Lowen talked and showed clips from her documentary. There were times it was so very painful to watch her documentary – an eleven year old boy getting bullied that I literally had to turn my head. His school did nothing (assistant principal), I will never understand how an adult, an educator could do nothing.  Listening to the boy’s mother who was filled with pain and frustration, trying with the best of her ability to protect her son was overwhelming. It was so hard for the mother to understand why her son had put up with the Bullying for so long without saying a word.

But the Bullying did not just stop with this one sweet boy in Ms. Lowen documentary. Cyber bullying I think might be even worse on some level because many times the victum thinks they are communicating with someone (a friend) that ends up not (a friend) who they thought, everything turns ugly at the speed of sound…

Children are taking their own life because of the pain and humiliation brought on by Bullying…it truly has become an epidemic in America and we have to do something AND we need to do something NOW!

Ms. Lowen explained some of the many reasons why people do not seek help from Bullying

1) Afraid their life would be even worse if they got help
2) Fired from their job
3) Afraid the solution still will not stop the Bullying
4) The Bully has really made them feel worthless and not worthy of kind behavior
5) Shameful
6) Maybe they should just suck it up, it might not be as bad as they think

Our culture Ms. Lowen said has turned very aggressive with denigration as a form of entertainment… e.g. Simon Cowell on American Idol. His/the show’s popularity grew the nastier Simon became. T. V. commercials usual makes a fool out of someone and the Internet used as a tool to deliver blind punches to someone else’s existence.

Dealing with Bullying is not an easy task and should not be done alone….but hopefully with more and more awareness and education there will be more people willing to UniteStand upBe Counted, stopping the insanity and the dysfunction of Bullying.

A couple of tips that might serve to be helpful:

1 – Meet with the school and make sure you know what kind of a resolution you want. If the bullying is happening on your child’s bus, ask for them to be removed. Ask for those children to be suspended from school. Request counseling for the bullies.

2 – Document your meeting. Who you met with, the day and time and the resolution. Send a copy to the school. the board of education and/or your school board.

3 – Bullying phone messages, emails, text etc., keep, show others and use in documentation.

4 – If the Bullying continues go to the police with all of your documentation.

Many times when meeting with teachers/principals/bosses/police all that gets communicated is your pain. Make sure you know what you want, ask for it and make sure you get it.

If the truth be told, Bullies always pick on those who are superior to them. For it is far easier for a bully to knock down others than it is to work hard to improve themselves into worth while human beings owning up to their faults, insecurities and choices.  But I will say it again…UniteStand UpBe Counted and join the masses against Bullying! There is strength in numbers!

Sleeping Positions…Ha, You’ve Got To Be Kidding!

22 Oct
Dear Readers,

When I saw this on Yahoo a few days ago it was one of those moments, one of those thought moments filling my head with you’ve got to be kidding moments, the universe can not be this stupid and lame kind of moments…please keep reading!

“What Your Sleep Position Reveals About Your Personality” by Lisa Collier Cool

“Your sleep habits may be more revealing than you think, according to a surprising new study. A body language expert has analyzed common sleep positions and reports that they can reveal how stressed you are. Sleep position also offers insights into such traits as bossiness, stubbornness, being self-critical, and whether people feel they’re in control of their life.
A study of 1,000 sleepers, commissioned by Premier Inns, suggest that there are basically four types of sleepers—the fetal, the log sleeper, the yearner and the freefallers. Here’s a look what your slumber habits may reveal about your personality. “

Now if you are like me you will need to reread the above paragraph…because my brain has a shut down feature with an automatic off switch to the stupid and ridiculous and hence did not want to completely take in that people were actually paid to sleep to gain insights into sleep positions and personality traits!

The article goes on to explain….

The Fetal Position – fetal sleepers are looking for comfort and are often constant worriers. While they are very conscientious during their waking hours, these are people who tend to overthink their tasks and daily lives.”

The Log Position –  a vertical line (below, right), with arms at your sides? The study says nearly 30 percent of people sleep like a “log,” and may be a bit rigid when it comes to their personalities.”
Image

The Yearner – The yearners are people who get up in the morning with an excitement to get out there and chase their dreams.  These are also people who go after their dreams without a real focus. They can be chronic time wasters. Phipps also says that some of the yearners aren’t just chasing their dreams, some feel that they are being chased.”

The Freefall Position – If you sleep face down on your stomach (below, right), with arms and legs all over the bed in a freefall position, it might mean that you are seeking control of time and space in a way that you don’t feel you have in your waking hours.”
Image

“Idzikowskia says those who sleep in the starfish sleeping position, on their backs with arms and legs outspread, may be more open, and make better friends than the logs.
He also singles out the soldier sleeper, who is also a back sleeper. The soldier tends to be quiet and reserved, and sets high standards for himself and others. Both the soldier and the starfish often struggle with getting a good night’s sleep because they tend to snore and have other breathing problems throughout the night.”

Unfortunately there wasn’t an upside down-feet up in the air sleeping position analysis (see photo below)!

Can you believe people actually got paid to due the study and people actually got paid to sleep? Maybe Premier Inns would pay me to study personality traits comparing those who eat chocolate before going to bed to those who eat it in the morning! I am sure that study would blow the door off of the insightful! Time and money well spent…hmmm this is actually sounding more like something the government would be interested in and would happily finance and of course turn into an entitlement!

I would be far more impressed with the study if they were able to label how the narcissistic, the entitled and the psychopath sleep positions….just think about how the world would change… just one sleep over with your future spouse would/could save you years and years of future problems! You could drop kick their crazy sleeping position to the curb and never have to deal with them ever again!

Asklotta and staff will MIND YOUR BUSINESS today waiting for someone to hire me to study the ridiculous!

Again, it has been my pleasure to tell you what to do and what NOT to do!
