Marley And No Rest Time!

3 Mar

Friday’s with Marley…

I was on the phone when Marley walked in the room, she flopped down on the floor with a loud snort. As I was finishing up with my call, the noises got louder and along with barking, backward sneezes, and lip licking there where many eye rolls .

I hung up and said… Marley, for God’s sakes what do you want ? You are being far too rude and far too annoying for my liking!

“Well, what do you expect she said, I am over worked, under paid and I’m not given an opportunity to rest on my days off, just like Prince William. We have no down time or better said, no me-time”

I’m speechless, you and Prince William, no rest on days off?…Thinking I might still be able to step out of crazy before it gets crazier.

But…

…Quickly realizing I’m already in the quagmire of crazy and sinking fast with no hope of escaping…

What do you mean, you are not given an opportunity to rest? You rest for hours every single day…In fact, I question whether you even know the difference between day and night.

…She stands up, indignant… “Do you realize how hard I work? I don’t even have time to be polite.” I’M ENTITLED she barks louder, I’M ENTITLED, I’m the victim in mi casa.”

…Excuse me Marley, did I hear you correctly?

……………No time to be polite? …Entitled?

You, You…YOU, a victim? You are definitely barking up the wrong tree today!

“That reminds me, did you notice those unwanted bitches around the tree I like to visit? Can’t believe the level of narcissism in the world today!”

Marley please!

“Well at least you’re being polite…But that doesn’t get me what I want, when I want it.”

Marley, please focus….I continue with an inspirational quote hoping for an enlightened moment.
“Happiness cannot come from without. It must come from within.” Helen Keller

” I agree with Helen she said, if you would give me a snack, happiness would be within me”

I turned on my heels, grabbed my car keys and headed for the door, with hopes that crazy wouldn’t follow…

The Giver!

10 Mar

Day Light savings arrived perfectly on time this morning. Which is also code for longer days of sunlight (yippee)! But for those who are not morning people, the time change leaves them very exhausted, feeling miserable for that lost hour of sleep.

But not me! I’m a morning person, I love springing forward and the clocks! Love jumping out of bed with the delight of an earlier start to my day or at least in my head it feels that way.

Today feeling a bit happier with a little more skip in my walk,  I walked over to my neighbors for my usually Sunday morning Thing One and Thing Two entertainment time.  Of course never knowing what activities I would discover but always filled with expectations of hugs, laughter and beautiful loving insights. This morning certainly did not disappoint.

As I let myself into their backyard heading to their backdoor I noticed bear size foot prints in the over night dusting of snow. At this point I need to mention their 110 pound Great Pyrenees English Setter Mix that looks more like a Shetland pony than a dog. And by the way, who loves to greet me by leaping up into the air landing her front paws on top of my shoulders with her enormous head towering above me. As she wagged her grand tail (swinging it back and forth), creating colder wind chill tempts, I did my best to push her down… Recognizing like everything else over at my neighbors house, she is filled with love.

But I’m digressing a bit….

Upon my arrival Thing One and Thing Two greeted me with smiles and giggles as they ran off to fetch their make-believe pizza (play doh) on little toy plates. I pretended to gobble it up with enthusiasm and delight. The next food delivery they thought should be tea.

When all of a sudden….

Thing One takes off like a shot (older, taller and has the athleticism of a gold medallist) was the first to grab the tiny plastic tea cup…

Poor harmony, poor, poor harmony… it ended up in the frying pan!

Thing Too wanted to be “the giver,” feeling his second giving would be considered sloppy seconds!

Which made me remember a quote by Theodore Roosevelt (a God wink moment)…”Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Because of great parenting, Thing Two learned no matter what he gave, it was still going to be very special…..Serenity arrived perfectly on time.

AND….

….To me, it became as obvious as the nose on my face, Thing Two had begun the journey that would lead him to being a very happy adult.

Dog Lover!

25 Apr
Dear AskLotta,

I’m thinking about getting a dog. I’m in my early 20s and love love love animals! I have a few roommates who are all dog lovers too. However, I have a full time job and a pretty active social life. I think that between my roommates and I, we’ll be able to look after it without a problem but I thought I’d ask for your advice first. Any thoughts?

Thank you much,

Dear Dog Lover,

Asklotta and staff have many thoughts even some on this topic (please see photo) for affirmation of my advice!

My quick and correct answers as per your request to MIND YOUR BUSINESS, are you nuts? You’re in early 20’s, working full time (very lucky) with a wonderful social life; you must be very adorable and smart. Just because you love and want something doesn’t make it OK to act on it! Do not get a dog with the theory “I think”.  It sounds unclear at best and leads me to believe you and your roommates have not discussed the full commitment and responsibility of a dog in a serious and mindful manner, exactly who will be responsible for what?  If your living arrangement changes, who gets the dog? (NOT ME!!!) Which ex roommate will continue with the help and care of the dog after life changing events? Hmm let me guess…none!

Asklotta wants to be perfectly clear; to ensure there is nothing about my advice that could be misconstrued as cloudy or ambiguous, there is a hiring freeze at CBCorp! NO MORE full time employees will be hired now or in the future! In fact, Asklotta is looking forward to one day downsizing the Corporation (an aging employee!)

From one dog lover to another… You will know when it is the right time to take on such a huge responsibility. Asklotta and staff are completely confident that you will agree on how important it is to build a business/career and to be connected to your community (socially and athletically) without being weighed down with additional responsibilities that you do not need to own in this moment in time!

It has been a pleasure to tell you what to do and what NOT to do!

Kindest regards,

Asklotta
