William and Flight 235

31 Dec

Our paths crossed William’s and mine…On a 6 AM flight from Cleveland to Atlanta. He was making his way home to San Antonio, TX and I like everyone else was criss-crossing the skies on non-direct flights from North to South to get West.

A few years ago kind William had been in the military serving his country proudly, defending our freedom…. But his last deployment to Afghanistan had left him an amputee. In place of a left leg were pieces of metal and bolts with a sneaker attached where a foot should have been. The war and his injuries were too much for his now ex-wife and along with his left leg he lost his marriage to that war as well.

We had talked about current events, some “attention getter headliners” and in his nonjudgmental tone his opinions was clear…And as he had gone through a healing process, William remains hopeful that much in our society that is now broken will mend as well

The war might have taken a physical toll, but William’s emotional and spiritual life is rock solid. He lives within his inner-peace and kindness. He doesn’t blame anyone or hold anger for what should or should not have been…William is filled with gratitude for all the pieces and parts of his life.

At 37, William is in graduate school getting his Masters in psychology and volunteers in schools where much is broken. He tells the kids the only way out is through education….He is going to relearn to swim in 2015 and p.s. he’s been dating someone special since April.

I believe people come into our life for a reason…For me, William is the happy and hopeful of the New Year!

Wishing you all a William in 2015!

A Holiday Thought!

9 Dec
Take a few minutes to write down every holiday custom you feel you should follow. Start with family patterns, but don’t end there. Offices and friendships have their own traditions. Looking over your list, visualize each activity. Notice how your body reacts. Do you tense or relax, feel like smiling, snarling or weeping? What creates a genuine sense of enthusiasm? True enthusiasm makes us feel divine, whether we take that as a religious reality or simply a wonderful emotion. The holy days are the best times to focus on real enthusiasm, the inner source that lightens and sanctifies our lives all year.

Think, Who Is It?

I’m convinced,

….there is someone you need to reach out to…

Write them today!

….It’s been what they have been waiting for, (and you)!

Think….Who is it?

Loving Words On Thursday!

4 Sep

“It happens all the time in heaven,

And some day

It will begin to happen

Again on earth-

That men and women who are

married,

And men and men who are lovers,

And women and women

Who give each other light,

Often will get down on their

Knees

And while so tenderly

Holding their lover’s hand,

With tears in their eyes,

Will sincerely speak, saying,

My dear,

How can I be more loving to you;

How can I be more kind?”

Monday’s Heart and Soul!

15 Jul

Hey there! I’ve been sitting at my computer writing and deleting, writing and deleting as I stare out my hotel room window hoping the words I’m searching for come flying in through the air conditioning vents….And all that’s coming to mind is this AC is really really cold.

So up and out for some sights, sounds and smells of inspiration so hopefully I won’t bore you even further!

AND it worked….It is truly amazing what happens when you open yourself up to…..Well everything!

April 19, 1995 – The monument below symbolizes at 9:01 AM the last minute of innocents (a great reflection off the water)

The monument below symbolizes at 9:03 AM life changed forever (another great water reflection…both monuments stand as bookends at the National Memorial in downtown Oklahoma City)

The Survivor Tree – “It is more than 80 years old. An American Elm Tree in the heart of downtown Oklahoma City, it survived the bomb’s blast and witnessed one of the worst terrorist attacks on American soil. Today, we call it the Survivor Tree.” The tree symbolizing life, strength, hope and a future because by all accounts it shouldn’t even be standing muchless thriving!

The day and the life of one very hot and sunny 104 degree day:

– A Kettle-Bell exercise class is in full swing at noon on the sidewalk of Broadway and 4th St.

– Another exercise class running city blocks on N. Robinson and Dean A. McGee Ave.

– A homeless man sits all day on a street bench. By 9 PM the day had cooled to a humid 98 degrees. I witnessed a stranger walking up to this homeless man and said “sir, please accept this.” He handed the homeless man $20. For a moment the homeless man stared into the eyes of this kind stranger, time had suddenly stopped or at least it felt that way to me. The silence just hung there for a moment, feeling a little awkward (don’t know why).

The homeless man asked “are you an angel?” and the stranger replied “No sir, just someone who cares.” That stranger was/is my husband.

That is the heart and soul of MY OK City!

Stay safe!

“Ultra Sounds!”

16 Jan
Dear Readers,

My day started as it usual does, early, peaceful and filled with joy. I look forward to seeing my dogs in the morning along my first cup of coffee.
“Simplicity is the ultimate form of sophistocation”.
Leonardo da Vinci (Reminded of quote by 2B Aware)

My day was very uneventful and thought it would be a great day to see a movie that my daughter recommended several weeks ago and had been nominated for an Oscar. I do love seeing movies that are up for Oscars…it’s just a little game I play with myself to see if I agree with the awards or need to start an in-house protest against the acedemy demanding more transparency!

I had plans to go to a 1:20 movie and then I walked into my office glanced at my calendar and that nagging feeling I had all morning became oh so very clear. I had a 2:45 appointment for a routine ultra sound. After I made a few calls, shifted gears, off to my appointment I went with new movie plans now for a 4:10 showing of “Silver Linings Playbook.” A beautiful protrail of a family dealing with mental health issues ( Bradley Cooper, played in The Hangover, Jennifer Lawrence, in The Hunger Games and Robert DeNiro, in everything!) A must see!

There are times when the real deal walks into your life and she did just that. I was seated in the waiting room at University Suburban Health Center when I heard my name called. Yes I said, that’s me!  I followed a slender woman in hospital scrubs into her examing room for a very routine ultra-sound… Her name is Lori, and she is the real deal!

The music was playing (more actually said, the music was rockin!) from small black speakers hiding behind her computer.  As I jump into one of those one piece wrapped exam dresses Lori skips off to view my past films. The music is the kind of music that makes it impossible not to move, and all of a sudden I am dancing in the radiologist office, not kidding! I am dancing, singing thinking what fun this all is and how my day started so ordinary.

Lori returns and come to find out she happens to be one of the best radiologist east of the Mississippi River! Not kidding!

Lori and I are yakking and talking and yakking and I am actually having fun at a doctor’s appointment. I said to Lori, you know I think its your music that really set a fun tone for this appointment. Come to find out it all came from her neighbor Gary. Gary loves music and he creates unbelievable CD’s for Lori to take in to work with her and for Lori’s patiences’ to enjoy!

You must understand about Lori if nothing more from this posting, she is the kind of person who really works hard for her patience’s because she cares deeply for their well being.

So the next thing I know I wake-up the next morning to an email from her neighbor Gary with the complete list of the CD I so enjoyed while in Lori’s office.

Please see his email from Gary

“Hi”
Lori told me you were enjoying some songs and asked me to send you the playlist. I know she already offered and you said you only wanted the song titles but I’d reiterate that I’d be happy to burn you a CD and Lori can send it to you. It would literally take only a few minutes and it’s no big deal. I think it would be a lot more enjoyable than a written list. I don’t know whether this was the first time you had been to see Lori but you could probably tell right away that she genuinely enjoys helping others. If you want the actual music just let us know and we’d be happy just knowing you might be rockin out and enjoying it.
Gary

Come to find out Gary is a huge giver as well as Lori! Not only does he provide music for Lori’s patiences’ but gives an hour and half long Kickboxing classes in Mentor and Middleburg, OH for ONLY five dollars a class. I had to give a shout out to Gary! I mean come on now…ONLY 5 dollars!

Now I have heard of certain neighborhoods of Cancer clusters (remember the movie Erin Brockovich with Julia Roberts, taking place in Woburn, MA) and just recently a Diabetes cluster in a a town East of Cleveland, OH. But a Sweet, Caring and Kind cluster, now that’s a first for me!…Maybe it will spread!

Asklotta and staff will MIND YOUR BUSINESS today totally grateful that a perfectly ordinary day brought Lori and Gary into my life!

Again, it has been my pleasure to tell you what to do and what NOT to do!

Kindest regards,

This Really Will Be Short and To The Point and completely filled with much gratitude!

23 Aug
Dear Readers,

I received these exact words from Sam’s family last night…

“Well, your wonderful, loving, caring, generous plea for prayers for Sam is working.  He’s better!  THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
XOXOXOXOXOXO  L”

Thank you from the bottom of my heart! You have no idea how helpless I felt and the outpour of kindness was truly amazing. It would have melted even a stone cold heart of hearts and turned a nonbeliever in to a believer, I do believe! Another meaningful coincidence!

“I have heard there are troubles of more than one kind.
Some come from ahead and some come from behind. But
I’ve brought a big bat. I’m all ready you see. Now my
troubles are going to have troubles with me!”
-Dr. Seuss

My pleas for prayers (August 21 posting) were answered because of you, because YOU “brought a big bat” to Sam’s troubles (to his families), You brought them hope! You brought me hope! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
You have proven, you have shown, there are more of YOU then there are of them!

Asklotta and staff will be MINDING YOUR BUSINESS today filled with gratitude and love for all of YOU!!!

AND in complete awe of the power of prayers, positive thoughts and positive energy!

Again, it has been my pleasure to tell you what to do and what NOT to do!

Kindest regards,
